The celebration of the Feast of Jesus Nazareno on January 9, 2025 marked the first year that it is celebrated as a national feast following the approval of the Catholic Bishop's Conference of the Philippines on its 126th plenary assembly in July 2023.

Between 2007 to 2016, five other parishes have been declared by their local dioceses as 'shrines dedicated to Jesus Nazareno' which serves as regional centers of the feast and devotion to the Jesus Nazarene.

"Since the devotion to the Jesus Nazareno has been spread out across the country even before it was designated as a national shrine, it meant a lot of significance to many of his devotees in different parts of the country," said Bro. "That is why in recent years, a number of churches were designated as shrines in honor of the Jesus Nazareno as a means to further strengthen the devotion in these places and they may also be considered 'regional centers' of the devotion," Panganiban added.

The first regional center to be declared a shrine dedicated to Jesus Nazarene is the Cebu Archdiocesan Shrine of Jesus Nazareno when it was in its old site in Cansojong on November 30, 2007. The shrine has a new site since 2024 in Dumlog, Talisay City where the official replica of the Jesus Nazarene was transferred from Quiapo Church- Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno on December 28, 2024.

In recent years, devotees in this city came in droves to join the local traslacion with year's count reaching to 13,000, according to the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office.

Simene said her 20-year old son almost died from a motor accident in 2024. Today, January 9, she joins the traslacion in the city to thank the Nazarene for saving his son and to ask for continuous guidance.

Meanwhile, Panganiban explained that, "As for Quiapo Church, the reason we had it applied as a national shrine is in order for it to be a recognized national center of the devotion since in 1988 it was only declared as a basilica."
