MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Wednesday evening that it is now preparing for its EDSA rehabilitation project this 2025.

This, after years of reblocking were implemented in the highway for its maintenance.

"Ang gagawin natin dito ay 'yung mga sira-sirang sections ay papalitan na natin ng bagong konkreto and then afterwards, lalatagan na natin totally ng aspalto at gagawan din natin ng drainage 'yan," DPWH Sec. Manuel Bonoan said in an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo's Johnson Ikwento Mo.

When asked if the rehabilitation would lead to the temporary closure of the whole EDSA, Bonoan assured the public that it would not be the case since the rehabilitation "will be done in segments."

Bonoan, however, asked for the public to extend its patience on whatever inconvenience the road works might cause, and assured that the rehabilitation would be for the best in the long run.

"Once na nagawa natin itong rehabilitation na ito, I am sure the for the next 10 to 15 years, hindi na tayo magre-reblock," he said.

"Palagay ko there will also be some improvement in the traffic [since the fixed  roads] will ensure the smooth flow of traffic and congestion," he added.

Regarding the budget of the project, Bonoan said DPWH allocated P7 billion for the rehabilitation from its 2025 budget.

He, however, clarified that the P7 billion budget is not yet the complete budget for the rehabilitation since they would also allot to it a portion of DPWH's 2026 budget.

"Hindi pa 'yun ang kabuuan ha kasi we may continue the rest of the rehabilitation in 2026... Aabutin tayo ng 2026 kasi hindi naman natin pwedeng isara ang EDSA at paunti-unti natin gagawin ito," he said.
