<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/173632567907420241211-vpsd-presscon-MT-19.jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Vice President Sara Duterte speaks to the media at the Office of The Vice President in Mandaluyong City on December 11, 2024. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span>MANILA — Forty-one percent of Filipinos support the potential impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, a recent survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) suggests.</div><p>A majority of respondents in Mindanao, the Dutertes&#x27; bailiwick, said they disagreed with the impeachment complaints filed at the House of Representatives,</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2024/12/10/duterte-welcomes-impeachment-complaints-against-her-1518">Duterte ‘welcomes’ impeachment complaints against her</a></div><p>The survey, conducted by SWS between Dec. 12 and Dec. 18, 2024 and released consultancy group Strabase, found that 41 percent of Filipinos support the ouster of Duterte, while 19 percent were &quot;undecided.&quot;</p><p>The remaining 35 percent said they disagreed.</p><p>Duterte faces three impeachment complaints pending before the House of Representatives amid the escalating rift between her family and President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and his allies and allegations of misuse of confidential funds at her office.</p><p>Duterte has repeatedly denied allegations and have said they are related to politics.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2024/12/23/2024-in-philippine-politics-uniteam-collapse-pogo-ban-deepening-ph-china-row-0325">2024 in Philippine politics: &#x27;Uniteam&#x27; collapse, POGO ban, deepening PH-China row</a></div><p>The call for Duterte’s impeachment was mostly echoed by respondents in Balance Luzon (50 percent), where 18 percent said they were undecided and 25 percent said they disagreed with the impeachment bids.</p><p>This was in stark contrast to Mindanao, where 56 percent opposed the impeachment move against 22 percent who agreed with the impeachment complaints and 18 who were undecided.</p><p>Visayas had the most respondents who were undecided at 24 percent. Forty percent of respondents supported impeachment while 33 disagreed with the move.</p><p>Among socioeconomic classes, support for Duterte&#x27;s impeachment was strongest in Classes ABC (50 percent) and lowest among Class E (37 percent).</p><div><strong>46 PERCENT CITE CONFIDENTIAL FUNDS ISSUE<br/></strong></div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/1/6/makabayan-sends-invitations-for-meeting-on-sara-duterte-impeachment-1729">Makabayan lawmakers send invitations for meeting on Sara Duterte impeachment complaints</a></div><p>The issue of confidential funds was cited by 46 percent of respondents as a basis for Duterte&#x27;s impeachment, while her &quot;threats&quot; against Marcos was mentioned by 24 percent of the respondents.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2024/11/23/marcos-family-s-security-strengthened-after-sara-duterte-s-kill-threat-1826">‘Matter of national security’: Marcos family&#x27;s security strengthened after Sara Duterte’s kill threat</a></div><p>The survey had 2,160 respondents and has a margin of error of ±2.</p><p>As of last week, the three impeachment complaints against Duterte were still with the Office of the House Secretary General, and have yet to be referred to the Office of House Speaker Martin Romualdez.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/1/2/4th-impeachment-complaint-looms-vs-sara-duterte-1708">4th impeachment complaint looms vs Sara Duterte</a></div><p>House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said that the complaints were still undergoing verification by his office’s legal team, and it is expected to submit a recommendation soon.</p><div><strong>&#x27;START PROCEEDINGS NOW&#x27;</strong></div><p>On Wednesday, an endorser and some complainants in the impeachment complaints against Duterte called on Congress to get the impeachment process moving, reminding lawmakers that acting on the complaints is a &quot;moral obligation.&quot;</p><p>“With all our voices, we would like to call on our lawmakers, especially the Congress, to make action and support this call. Time is crucial,&quot; said Sister Ma. Liza Ruedas, one of the filers of the second impeachment complaint.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2024/12/8/wrap-the-impeachment-bids-vs-vp-sara-duterte-so-far-2037">WRAP: The impeachment bids vs VP Sara Duterte so far</a></div><p>“Ito ay isang moral na obligasyon na ng taumbayan… Nananawagan po kami sa Kongreso… na i-proseso na, huwag nang patagalin, sapagkat kawawa ang ating bayan kung hindi natin isusulong itong impeachment na ito,” added Pinky Tam, one of the filers of the third impeachment complaint.</p><p>(This is a moral obligation to the people. We are calling on the House to process this and no longer prolong it because our country will suffer is this impeachment does not progress)</p><p>ACT Teachers Rep.
