Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Devotees line up to touch and wipe the image of Jesus Nazareno with their handkerchiefs or towels during the first day of the “Pahalik” at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on January 7, 2025, days ahead of the Feast of the Jesus Nazarene. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA -- Devotees from all walks of life trooped to the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Tuesday for the first day of Pahalik.</p><p>This is the annual tradition where devotees are given the chance to pray and wipe towels and handkerchiefs at the cross of the image of Jesus Christ.</p><p>Devotees say they feel much better and lighter after doing the tradition.</p><p>&quot;Sobra nakakaiyak at nakakagaan ng pakiramdam na makalapit kasi last year hindi nakalapit sa kanya sa sobrang dami ng tao kaya nag-decide kaming mag-asawa na pumunta ng maaga,&quot; said Roan Mosatalla, a devotee.</p><p>(I am in tears and I feel lighter now that I got close to the image. Nung nagbuntis ako hanggang nagkaanak ako itinaas ko na sa Poong Nazareno lahat ng mangyayari,&quot; she said.</p><p>(The number one miracle from Jesus Nazareno was when he granted my prayers of having a daughter. I already have four sons when I had a daughter. When I became pregnant, I fully surrendered to Jesus.)</p><p>Meanwhile, Eusebio Refuerzo has been a devotee for more than 50 years. He is now a stroke survivor so he continues his devotion to the Nazareno. Despite not being able to go up the Andas, he still joins Traslacion activities.</p><p>&quot;Parang maginhawa kapag nakaakyat na ako, pakiramdam ko maganda,&quot; he said.</p><p>(I feel so much better, and lighter after the Pahalik.)</p><p>He says his life has been in danger numerous times, and says it was Jesus Nazareno who saved him.</p><p>&quot;Ilang beses na ako muntik mabagsakan ng bareta sa ulo eh, naiwas sakin bareta. Marami na ako aksidente pero di ako namamatay, di ako natutuluyan hanggang ngayon na stroke ako at gumaling pa ako,&quot; he added.</p><p>(There were a few times that a claw bar almost hit my head. I have encountered a lot of accidents but I&#x27;m still alive. I even survived a stroke.)</p><p>Meanwhile, Janeth Grecio said Jesus Nazareno cures her of her illnesses. On Tuesday, she brought replicas of the Nazareno which she found in trash bins.</p><p>&quot;Halimbawa, may nararamdaman ako, siya lang kinukuha ko, pinapatong ko sa tiyan ko, okay na ako, malakas na ako,&quot; Grecio said.</p><p>(When I feel sick, I get the replicas, I put them in my stomach and I feel much better.)</p><div><strong>MMDA INSPECTION</strong></div><script data-wid="auto" type="text/javascript" src="https://content.viralize.tv/display/?zid=AAEyze-tm4MR6kEa&amp;cid=ABSs6uhtQUIJ9ESQ&amp;activation=adfill&amp;vip_mode=no"></script><p>Officials of the MMDA did a round of inspection on Tuesday to ensure safety of millions of devotees expected to come in the next two days.</p><p>&quot;Naglagay tayo barikada doon para maiayos pila, at naglagay tayo ng tent para may masilungan, yung seniors binibigyan priority lane,&quot; MMDA Chairman Don Artes said.</p><p>(We put barriers to ensure orderliness of the queue and tents to shelter people lining up.
