MANILA (UPDATED)— Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary Deogracias Victor "DV" Savellano has passed away. He was 65. 

His passing was announced Tuesday by the provincial government of Ilocos Sur through its Facebook page. No cause of death was mentioned.

Savellano was the husband of actress Dina Bonevie.

Prior to being appointed at the DA, Savellao was a governor of Ilocos Sur and was representative of the province's first district. 

In a social media post, the DA extended its condolences to Savellano's family, friends, and colleagues.

"As the Department's Undersecretary for Livestock from 2023 to the present, Usec. DV's unwavering commitment to advancing the livestock industry has made a significant impact on agriculture. His leadership has been instrumental in driving initiatives that enhance the productivity, sustainability, and food security in agriculture," the agency said.

The flag at the DA's main building will be flown at half mast in honor of Savellano.
