MANILA – A priest on Monday urged the faithful to visit designated Jubilee churches so they could listen to stories of hope and faith, as well as join activities and conditions to receive their plenary indulgence during the Roman Catholic Church’s Jubilee Year this year.

“‘Yung Jubilee Year tinatawag din natin na holy year, dahil ito ang taon na ang layunin ng bawat mananapalataya ay ang pagpapabanal ng Diyos… Lahat ay binibiyayaan ng ganap na kapatawaran sa lahat ng kasalanang nagawa natin,” said Fr. Jesus Madrid, Jr. the Archdiocese of Manila’s coordinator for Jubilee Celebration.

“Kaya napakahalagang biyaya ang binibigay ng pagpapatawad ng Diyos sa lahat ng kasalanan natin pati na rina ng consequences of our sins,” Madrid added.

The Archdiocese of Manila designated 24 Jubilee Churches and assigned each church to a sector.

The Archdiocesan Shrine of Mary Queen of Peace or the EDSA Shrine, for example, has been designated for government officials and security personnel while the Archdiocesan Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Loreto in Sampaloc has been designated for families, elderlies, and grandparents.

Fr. Madrid said these churches would provide messages of hope to the specific sector they were assigned to.

“Para lamang yung mga mamamayan natin, mayroong specific na mapuntahan na makaka-relate talaga sila doon sa mga kuwento na puwede nilang marinig sa Jubilee church,” he said.

“Gusto natin na mayroong specific na puwedeng mapuntahan yung bawat mananampalataya. Ganunpaman, sa lahat ng Jubilee churches, puwede namang puntahan para maka-gain ng plenary indulgence,” he added.

A 61-year-old lady visited Our Lady of Loreto this Monday afternoon to offer her prayers.

The lady, who refused to be named due to privacy reasons, became emotional when she talked about her family. She said she visits the church every day to lift up to the Lord the challenges she continues to face.

“Naku, unang-una nakulong ang asawa ko. Pangalawa yung anak ko. Yung pangatlo yung apo ko, nagahasa. Yung isang apo ko, naglalaslas. Yun ang nilalapit ko dito. Sana, dumating ang panahon na matutulungan ako ni Mama Mary,” the 61-year-old said.

“Sobra ang stress ko ngayon, hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko,” she said.

“Every day yan lagi ako nandito. Bago ako magtinda, aalis ako, babalik nanaman ako. Kaya lang minsan may dumadating sa akin na blessing – yun ang binigay sa akin ng Panginoon.”

Meanwhile, Mary Christine Escobar felt that Our Lady of Loreto called her to visit.

Escobar, who traveled from Abra and was just visiting the city to have her mother’s health checked, said it was her first time to visit the Sampaloc church.

“Nakakagaan. It is so fulfilling. Hindi ko inexpect na mapupunta ako in this place,” said Escobar.

“Hindi ko talaga lubos maisip paano ako napunta dito… Tapos pagtingin namin may church pala. Napaka-ano naman sa sarili mo na hindi mo bibisitahin eh nandito ka na. Parang tinawag talaga kami,” she added.

Escobar said she would continue convincing other people to go to churches this Jubilee year and do her part as a lay minister.

Organized by the Church every 25 years, the Jubilee is intended as a period of reflection and penance, and is marked by a long list of cultural and religious events, from masses to exhibitions, conferences and concerts.
