DAVAO CITY -- Former president Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday assured PDP Laban local leaders and senatorial aspirants that Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is not abusive and there is no reason to fear oppression in the upcoming elections.

During his speech at the party's national coordination meeting in Davao City, he expressed hope that Marcos Jr. will promote peace and ensure the integrity of the midterm elections.

"The president is not really sabihin mo abusado. It would not be a fair comment. Hindi naman talaga masamang tao si Presidente Marcos. But I seldom mention the names of the other side of the fence, but ito, there's no reason for us to be scared of oppression, kasi wala naman akong nakikita na any tendency of the president to be abusive and would condone itong wrongdoing -- wala akong nakikita diyan," he said in his speech during the national coordination meeting of PDP Laban local leaders, senatorial aspirants under the party in Davao City on Thursday.

"So this coming election, I hope that the president, kung marinig niya ako, bigyan nila tayo ng sabi ko nga a fair share na patas lang ang laban," he added.

Duterte also expressed confidence in the likelihood of his senators' success in the upcoming elections.

He admitted challenges in fundraising, mentioning lack of budget and big contributors as they work to gather support for their campaigns. But as he reflected on his own experience, Duterte noted that he had no sufficient funding when he started his presidential bid in 2016.

He encouraged PDP Laban members not to engage in fear and violence, emphasizing the importance of preserving democracy.

Duterte plans to go around key cities of the country during the campaign period amid his mayoral candidacy in Davao City.
