MANILA — The Department of Foreign Affairs said there is no decision yet on calls to impose a ban on the deployment of overseas Filipino workers to Kuwait.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo said they have to study the proposal thoroughly with the Department of Migrant Workers and consider several factors in imposing the potential moratorium.

“We will have to really study this very carefully, taking into account iyong protection of our workers at saka iyong relations with the country concerned, in this case, Kuwait. So, iyon ang kailangan naming pag-aralan,” he said in an interview on Friday, January 31.

“Well, we’ve not yet … wala pa naman decision pero we’re studying it closely at saka kung ano iyong mga effects kung sakaling magkaroon ng ban,” Manalo added.

Earlier, Senator Raffy Tulfo who chairs the Senate Committee on Migrant Workers, reiterated his call to impose a deployment ban on Filipino domestic workers to Kuwait following the death of OFWs Dafnie Nacalaban and Jenny Alvarado.

The country’s top diplomat noted they are still awaiting the results of the investigation into Alvarado’s death, noting that the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait has been working with Kuwaiti authorities in probing the incident.
