MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday challenged China to cease its "aggressive and coercive actions" against Filipino fishermen and Philippines' sovereign rights over the West Philippine Sea, so he could consider sending back the Typhon missile launchers deployed by the United States.

"Stop claiming our territory, stop harassing our fishermen, stop ramming our boats, stop water cannoning our people, stop firing lasers at us, and stop your aggressive and coercive actions, and I’ll return the Typhon missiles," he said.

"Tigil nila ang ginagawa nila, ibabalik ko lahat yan," Marcos Jr. added.

China has called the deployment of Typhon missile last week as "dangerous", claiming it could “provoke geopolitical confrontation and an arms race.”

The Typhon missile launchers were moved by the US military from Laoag airfield in the Philippines to another area in Luzon, according top a senior Philippine government source. The Armed Forces of the Philippines had also confirmed this development.

Marcos Jr. said he doesn't understand why China opposes the Philippines' use of the Typhon missile system when Beijing has even more powerful weapons.

"I don't understand their comments on the Typhon missile system —  we don't make any comments on their missile systems and their missile systems are a thousand times more powerful," he stressed.

An analyst said this was an expected move from China.

“Let’s not even think na dapat natin tanggalin ang Typhon missiles natin… Kapag tinulak na talaga ng mga Tsino beyond the greyzone, paggamit ng dahas, mayroon na tayong panangga doon. Sana hindi tayo dumating sa ganoong punto. Sana huwag," said Prof. Renato De Castro, who teaches international studies at the De La Salle University.

Philippine military officials have denied China's demand to remove the missile launchers from the country's territory.

The Philippine army will start training with US Typhon missile system next month.
