MANILA – The Bestlink College of the Philippines on Wednesday described the issues surrounding its foundation day celebration over the weekend as “fabricated” and “not true,” saying these were intended to destroy the school’s reputation.

In a statement, the Novaliches-based educational institution said it was open for an independent fact-finding probe to establish what really happened during its foundation day in Hermosa, Bataan.

“To shed light on the current situation, we would like to rectify some reports that led to misinformation / disinformation which came out or have been circulating on Facebook and other social media platforms concerning said event. We wish to clarify that these reports are not true, fabricated as they are, since they do not reflect what had actually happened on the ground at the time,” the statement read.

“We strongly feel that this misinformation / disinformation was deliberately made by some quarters, with the intent to publicly tarnish the good image and reputation of our esteemed Institution,” it added.

The administration said authorities could reach out to the local government of Hermosa “which has adequate, relevant, and material information on the matter.”

Despite this though, Bestlink acknowledged the unforeseen circumstances during the event and problems that arose in their transport service providers.

It emphasized that they put a premium on the students’ safety and welfare.

“We fully sympathize with the students for what they went through, and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this event may have caused not only to our students and their families, but also to the residents of Punta Belle in Hermosa, Bataan,” the statement read.

Hundreds of students criticized the educational institution for the inconvenience they experienced after their foundation day in Bataan, with some of them having to walk at least three hours just to reach the buses that would transport them home.

One student described the walk as a “death march,” while another student that ABS-CBN News talked to said he was traumatized.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Tuesday said it would issue a show-cause order against Bestlink Colleges of the Philippines “for conducting off-campus activity without submitting the required documents with CHEDRO NCR.”

The Quezon City local government, for its part, called on schools to be responsible and to prioritize student welfare.
