MANILA — Several groups urged the Marcos administration to address rising cost of basic necessities and continuous deployment of Filipinos abroad by providing a “family living wage”.

OFW rights’ group Migrante International supported the appeal for a P1,200 daily minimum wage for workers in the private sector and P33,000 monthly salary for public employees.

Migrante International chairperson Joanna Concepcion said the administration lacks a concrete and long-term plan to address poverty, unemployment and absence of security of tenure in the country.

A “manifesto of unity” was also released and supported by OFW groups and Migrante leaders from various parts of the world.

Over 156 organizations of OFWs and overseas Filipinos signed the declaration, according to Migrante’s press release.

“Our families should not have to constantly rely on the remittances born from our working two, to three, or even more jobs under exploitative and dangerous conditions. And as workers in our host countries, we are together with our fellow workers at home and abroad including their families in the fight for a just and equitable family living wage,” the manifesto stated.

Lester Ramos of Migrante USA also called for a concrete plan amid the mass deportation policy of United States President Donald Trump.

Migrante International will spearhead a nationwide protest to be held on Friday, January 31.
