MANILA — Sen. Raffy Tulfo admitted Tuesday that a vehicle carrying his son, Quezon City Second District Rep. Ralph Wendel Tulfo, was caught using the EDSA Busway.

Tulfo said he does not see any problem in the incident, although he had reprimanded his son.

“Pag hindi tumakas wala akong nakikitang problema. Pag hindi siya nang-abuso, hindi nagmura, wala akong nakikitang problema,” Tulfo told reporters.

“Inadmit naman niya, hindi naman siya nagsinungaling at nag-apologize siya so wala akong nakikitang problema doon as long as hindi siya tumakas, hindi siya gumamit ng plakang otso, which karapatan niyang gumamit pero hindi siya gumamit. It just shows na hindi siya abusado,” Tulfo added.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) previously said that passing through the Busway is only allowed for authorized buses, emergency vehicles, the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Supreme Court Chief Justice.

“Pinagalitan ko siya, pinagsabihan ko, pinagalitan ko…pinagalitan ko at nag-sorry siya sa akin ang sabi ko mag-apologize ka sa lahat and that’s it,” Tulfo said of his son.

He said it seemed like it was the driver’s decision to enter the Busway.

“Ang pagkakaalam ko ata nagmamadali siya, yung driver niya yata ang pumasok doon sa bus stop,”he said.

Tulfo said he only learned of the incident on Monday night.

The Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) on Monday said it apprehended an unnamed lawmaker’s driver for using the EDSA Carousel on Jan. 23, 2025. The same driver was also caught using the busway on Sept. 26, 2024, it said.
