MANILA — Malacañang has appointed a new communications undersecretary to focus on the rationalization of state media assets.

Former Transportation Assistant Secretary Jorjette Barrenechea Aquino has been appointed as undersecretary of the Presidential Communications Office, according to a January 23 appointment document from Malacañang.

“She was my technical staff when I was assistant secretary for Rails; assistant secretary for Rails, when I was undersecretary for Rails,” Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez told reporters in a text message.

Aquino is expected to focus on the “rationalization plan (RatPlan) and digitalization of PTV4 under JICA assistance,” he said.

The new undersecretary will also be in charge of rationalization plans for other government media assets including Radio Pilipinas 1, News and Information Bureau, Philippine Information Agency, Bureau of Communications Services and IBC13.

Aquino graduated from the De La Salle University’s  BS Math in Actuarial Science and Statistics program, and earned her Master in Public Administration from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

Aquino replaced Cherbett Karen Maralit, a communications official who was appointed when Cheloy Garafil was still Communications Secretary.
