MANILA — The remains of overseas Filipino worker Jenny Alvarado, who died in Kuwait, would finally be repatriated Thursday night following a gaffe that angered her bereaved family, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

The OFW died on January 2 due to suffocation. Her supposed remains arrived last January 10, only for her family to find out that it was the wrong cadaver.

"Jenny Alvarado will be arriving tonight so we will be there to receive the remains together with the family," DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac said.

“We continue to provide all forms of assistance to the family as we had already started to do so last weekend,” Cacdac said in a chance interview on the sidelines of signing of Joint Declaration of Intent on the Mobility of Filipino Specialists and Skilled Workers to Finland with Finland’s Economic Affairs and Employment Minister Arto Olavi Satonen.

“I’ve been apprised about the applicable Kuwaiti law, and yes we are moving ahead with the filing of claims against whoever — hindi ko muna papangalanan pa kung sino — but whoever caused the mistake or the error,” Cacdac said.

For now, the agency said it has provided financial assistance to the Alvarado family especially to Jenny’s three children.
