MANILA — The Department of Foreign Affairs on Thursday said it condemned the killing of a newlywed Filipina in Slovenia who was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband.

"The Philippine Government condemns the tragic incident that caused the demise of a Filipino citizen in Slovenia, and expresses its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family here in the Philippines," the DFA said in a statement.

The DFA added that the Philippine Embassy in Vienna, in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs and other agencies, was working with Slovenian authorities for the immediate transfer of her remains to the Philippines "upon completion of all requisite forensic processes."

Marvil Facturan met her husband Mitja Kocjancic online in February 2024, said her mother Vilma.

She said Mitja visited Marvil in the Philippines and proposed marriage to her on her birthday last July. They were married in the same month.

She said that after the wedding, Marvil spent the next months processing her papers before following her husband in Slovenia last Dec. 22.

But on Dec. 31, Vilma said she received a call from embassy authorities informing her that her daughter had been killed.

"Gusto ko pong makamit ni Marvil Facturan yung justice sa nangyari po sa buhay niya. Nasa mental institution po yung husband niya, na hindi po sapat yung nangyari sa pagkamatay niya, na marami pong saksak na natamo ang kaniyang katawan," Vilma said.

"Dapat nasa kulungan po yung husband po niya."
