MANILA — Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson on Thursday officially withdrew his Senate candidacy in the May elections.

Singson filed with the Commission on Elections his withdrawal from the Senate race.

He earlier said he was quitting the race over health issues. In a speech in front of his supporters, the former governor revealed that he was recovering from pneumonia.

Ayaw kong ipilit. Ang aking kalusugan ay maaaring magdusa," he added.

A candidate has to personally appear before the Comelec to withdraw their candidacy. No substitution will be allowed in the event of a withdrawal.
