MANILA — Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Tuesday said the massive rally of the Iglesia Ni Cristo this week would have no effect on the National Bureau of Investigation’s probe into Vice President Sara Duterte’s supposed threat against the life of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

Asked if Monday’s INC rally that showed support for the President’s opposition to impeachment efforts against Duterte would cause any pressure on the NBI investigating panel, Remulla said the probe was immune to any political pressure.

“I don’t think so, kasi we just have to look at the law as something that equalizes everything between all of us, that’s why we cannot give special favors to people because of standing,” Remulla said.

The Vice President’s announcement made in Japan about her plans for 2028 is also a separate matter, according to Remulla.

“It’s not an issue eh, the issue is whether or not a criminal act was committed, syempre we have to look at it from the merits stand, merits of the case, or cases,” Remulla said.

Remulla said the INC rally was an exercise of constitutionally guaranteed freedom of the group.

“I’m not concerned about that because it’s their freedom, they have the freedom to express themselves and we respect that freedom, we guard that freedom zealously,” Remulla said.

Asked about the investigation on the extrajudicial killings during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, Remulla said the probe was ongoing.

“Tuloy-tuloy lang, everything is a work in progress eh, may process lahat iyan,” Remulla said.
