MANILA — The Palace on Tuesday said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s stand on the possible impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte remained unchanged.

"The president's position on the impeachment move in the HoR [House of Representatives] has not changed," Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said.

Bersamin said this when asked if the mammoth "peace rally" staged by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) on Monday affected Marcos' stance on the impeachment moves against his former political ally.

Despite their rift, Marcos has not supported the impeachment complaints against Duterte, earlier calling such moves a waste of time.

INC earlier said that it supported Marcos' opposition to Duterte's possible impeachment.

It has insisted that the gathering — which drew more than 1.5 million attendees, according to police estimates — was not a show of force against lawmakers who wanted to oust Duterte, who is widely seen as a possible contender in the 2028 presidential elections.

At least three impeachment complaints against Duterte were verified as of Friday.
