RIZAL — The Rizal Provincial Police began Commission on Elections checkpoint operations at midnight on Sunday as the nationwide gun ban and the midterm election period officially started.

During his visit to a checkpoint at Barangay Santa Ana in Taytay, Rizal, Police Col. Felipe Maraggun said every municipality would have at least one checkpoint with eight personnel.

The Rizal police chief said searches at the checkpoints will follow the Plain View Doctrine, which limits inspections to visual searches.

To minimize inconvenience, officers will not require motorists to open their glove compartments or ask riders to dismount from their motorcycles, unless there is a court-issued search warrant for them.

He also advised drivers to cooperate by slowing down when approaching checkpoints, turning on their cabin lights, and rolling down their windows.
