MANILA — The Philippine National Police on Monday said it increased police visibility in malls, supermarkets, and other crowded areas as Filipinos begin holiday traditions and festivities ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Around 40,000 police personnel have been deployed nationwide, particularly in places of worship, major thoroughfares, transportation terminals, and tourist spots, PNP spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo said.

"At habang nandyan ang mga pulis natin sa kalsada ay inaasahan natin na mababawasan din ang commission of crimes, dahil 'yung mga would-be criminals ay magdadalawang-isip lalo't nakikita nila na nasa paligid lang ang ating kapulisan."

Aside from increased police visibility, Fajardo assured that the PNP is also focused on its operations against lawless elements who may take advantage of the expected increase in economic activities this Christmas season.
