The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Saturday the recent joint maritime drill between the US, Philippines, and Japan was aimed to promote international order in the West Philippine Sea.

This comes after the latest aggression of China Coast Guard and the People’s Liberation Army Navy vessels against Philippine vessels near Bajo de Masinloc.

AFP Chief of staff Romeo Brawner underscored the importance of working with “like-minded” countries in the actual patrolling in the WPS.

“Ang kahulugan nito is we are working together in order to promote a rules-based international order,” Brawner told ABS-CBN News in an ambush interview.

“Our thrust is really to improve and enhance our cooperation, our collaboration with like-minded nations and one of them is Japan,” he added.

On Friday, Dec. 6, military forces from the three nations conducted a Multi-lateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MMCA) within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Philippines.
