MANILA — The Philippine National Police believes that American vlogger Elliott Eastman is already dead based on statements from witnesses and a suspect in his abduction in Zamboanga del Norte in October.

Eastman was kidnapped from Sibuco town by four armed men who posed as law enforcement officers.

Police Lt.Col Ramoncelio Sawan, acting spokesperson of Police Regional Office IX, told reporters in a phone interview on Thursday that a suspect, in an extrajudicial confession made last November, confirmed initial information that Eastman had died and that his body was thrown into the sea.

A witness earlier claimed that Eastman succumbed to a gunshot wound to the leg and abdomen.

Despite these testimonies, Eastman’s body has not yet been found.

“Wala pa tayong nakikitang katawan niya, although we tried to search for any signs sa mga baybayin at karatig isla. Wala pa talaga tayong nahahanap,” the police official explained.

Eastman’s family has already been informed of developments in the abduction case, according to Sawan.

“We are in constant coordination with the stakeholders from the US Embassy,” he added.

Sawan maintained that they have yet to determine the motive behind the American vlogger’s abduction.

On October 29, police filed kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges against six suspects before the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
