Escudero explained that while impeachment is often described as a political exercise, it is crucial that members of the Senate approach it with the impartiality and objectivity.

"Hindi dapat mag-comment ang myembero ng Senado. Kasi kung sakaling makarating po ito sa Senado, kami ang impeachment judge. So, we should not comment on something that we will decide. So, para po maging ethical at maka-alinsunod sa rules, ay hindi dapat po mag-comment kahit sino Senador. Kasi po, kagaya po ng kayo po, pwede ba nyo interviewin ng RTC judge? Judge, anong gagawin nyo sa kaso? Hindi naman pwede ganon. Pwede nyo bang interviewin ng isang Supreme Court Justice? Justice, anong tingin nyo sa kaso? Yung po ay dinidesisyusyonan ng sang ayon sa facts at sang ayon sa batas. Kasama na rin doon yung form and substance. So, unethical for us to comment on this. Yun yung aking pananaw bilang chairman ng committee of rules," said Tolentino.
