In a statement, Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, PNP chief, said the police are prepared to provide first aid for firecracker-related injuries and respond to fire incidents together with local fire protection units.

On Saturday, the Department of Health reported the first death from firecrackers this year. It also logged a total of 125 injuries so far this year.

The PNP chief said he has directed all police units nationwide to prioritize public safety and security as the country celebrates the New Year.
