MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has denied issuing a memorandum regarding the "cancellation" of the Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) to its personnel calling a supposed memorandum spreading online as "absolutely fake news".

The PNP said it has monitored a supposed copy of the "memorandum" on the government-issued incentive making the rounds online.

The supposed memo bearing the agency's letterhead was labelled as "fake news" by the PNP, which also it "categorically denies the existence of any memorandum" cancelling the SRI.

"The circulating document is absolutely fake news and should not be considered legitimate or credible," it said.

'BONUS ALREADY BEING PROCESSED'

The national police has assured its personnel that the SRI for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 is already being processed.

"The Finance Service (FS), in coordination with the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM), is working diligently to ensure that all qualified PNP personnel will receive their SRI," it said.

The PNP leadership urged the public to refrain from sharing the photo online.

"We urge the public, particularly our personnel, to exercise caution and discernment when encountering unverified information that undermines the integrity of the PNP," it said.

The PNP said it will investigate the fake memo and that "appropriate charges will be filed against individuals found culpable for this deliberate attempt to mislead and sow confusion within our ranks and the general public."

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. granted the SRI to qualified government, including teachers and military and uniformed personnel, who will each receive P20,000.
