Jervis Manahan, ABS-CBN News/File "/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">The DSWD launched &#x27;Walang Gutom Kitchen&#x27; in Pasay City. <em>Jervis Manahan, ABS-CBN News/File </em></span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA — The Philippine government&#x27;s newly-opened Walang Gutom Kitchen food bank is looking for food donations from restaurants and fast food chains, as well as for volunteers, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said Saturday.</p><p>Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian called on interested donors and volunteers in a video message posted on their social media pages.</p><p>&quot;Hinihikayat namin ang mga organisasyon at indibidwal na gustong tumulong laban sa kagutuman na magtungo lamang sa Walang Gutom Kitchen sa Nasdake Building sa Pasay City para maging volunteer server natin for the day,&quot; he said.</p><p>(We encourage organizations and individuals who are interested to help fight hunger to visit Walang Gutom Kitchen at Nasdake Building in Pasay City to be a volunteer server for the day)</p><p><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2024/12/16/dswd-opens-first-food-bank-in-ph-1600">Opened in December 16</a>, the food bank eyes to unify the the public and private sector in decreasing food wastes while also helping to feed the poor.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/10/15/23/palace-names-walang-gutom-2027-as-flagship-program">RELATED: Palace names &#x27;Walang Gutom 2027&#x27; as flagship program</a></div><p>Gatchalian also mentioned that in the following months, they plan to expand the project to different areas in the country.</p><p>He said this is part of Ferdinand Marcos Jr.&#x27;s vision to end hunger.</p><p>Around 22.9% of Filipino families experience involuntary hunger, or not having anything to eat at least once in the past three months, according to a survey conducted by Social Weather Stations in September 24.</p><p>This is 5.3 points above the 17.6% survey results in June 2024 and the highest since the record high 30.7% during the pandemic in September 2020.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/living/2024/12/20/the-most-essential-piece-in-your-kitchen-now-comes-with-a-super-eco-function-2044">NGO gets surplus food from restaurants, hotels to feed the poor</a></div><p>Aside from Walang Gutom Kitchen, other non-government organizations also help fighting hunger like Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Philippines which started in October 2022.</p><p>The group has already fed hundreds of marginalized communities with millions of food packs.</p>
