MANILA — The Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) and TikTok have joined forces to combat cybercrimes on the social networking platform.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, the two sides discussed ways to address strategic issues and operational concerns related to the online video-sharing platform, while exploring collaborative opportunities to effectively tackle these challenges.

PNP-ACG spokesperson Lt. Wallen Arancillo said the collaboration would enhance and expedite investigation efforts, as TikTok has also been exploited by cybercriminals, specifically for scamming activities.

“Nag-umpisa ito sa request ng TikTok since si TikTok ngayon ay ginagamit na rin as means of scamming nitong mga cybercriminals. Meron na kasi sila nitong buy-and-sell, nagbebenta na rin ‘yong mga kababayan natin doon or sino mang may available na account sa TikTok and ito na naman ‘yong ginagamit sa online selling scam,” Arancillo told reporters in an interview on Thursday.

(This started with TikTok's request, since TikTok is now also being used as a means of scamming by cybercriminals. They already have a buy-and-sell feature, and our fellow countrymen, or anyone with an available account on TikTok, are selling there, and this is being used for online selling scams.)

“Sa ngayon, kapag may magreklamo dito na online scam gamit ‘yong TikTok, no need of letter na. Meron lang isang focal person na kakausapin si ACG para mas mabilis ‘yong proseso,” she added.

(When there is a complaint about an online scam using TikTok, there's no need for a letter anymore. There will be a focal person who will talk to the ACG to make the process faster.)

Arancillo said TikTok also sought assistance from the Women and Children Cybercrime Protection Unit to address exploitation concerns.

“Ginagamit ‘yong mga bata para mapagkaparehan or makagawa ng mga videos na ito at ibinibenta sa iba’t ibang bansa,” she said.

(Children are being used to mimic or create videos, which are then sold to different countries.)

TikTok committed to providing ACG personnel with training to strengthen investigation efforts, according to Arancillo.

“We aim for our law enforcement partners to have a clear understanding of our operating procedures and legal requirements, and proactively engage threats that could impact user or community safety on our platform,” Elisabeth Potuijt, TikTok Law Enforcement Outreach Manager-Southeast Asia, said in a news release.
