MANILA — The National Union of People’s Lawyers has asked the Philippine government to grant immediate access to the family and lawyers of Mary Jane Veloso once she is back in the Philippines.

The NUPL said it is pleased that the process of Veloso’s transfer from Indonesia to the Philippines is already unfolding, following the transfer of Veloso from Yogyakarta to Jakarta.

Veloso — who was arrested and sentenced to death in 2010 for carrying 2.6 kilograms of heroin in her luggage — was transferred to a facility in Jakarta from Yogyakarta over the weekend.
