MANILA (UPDATE) — University of the Philippines' College of Law graduate Kyle Christian Tutor is the topnotcher of the 2024 Bar examinations, the Supreme Court (SC) announced on Friday.

More than 12,000 registered to take the Bar exams this year but only around 10,000 took and finished the tests.

Lopez said 3,962 passed this year's Bar exams, or a passing rate of 37.84 percent, after the justices decided to lower the passing score from 75 to 74 percent.

Nearly 1,000 new lawyers were added to the list as a result of the adjusted passing grade, Lopez noted.

“Malakas yata ang dasal niyo,” he said.

The exams were held on September 8, 11 and 15, 2024 in 13 local testing centers across the country, including 6 in Metro Manila, 2 in Luzon, 3 in the Visayas and 2 in Mindanao in a bid to reduce the logistical, financial and emotional burdens for examinees, particularly those from the provinces.

The Supreme Court earlier ruled that the scores of examinees are considered “sensitive personal information” under the Data Privacy Act, "thus, they cannot be disclosed without prior consent of the examinees."

However, Chief Justice Alexander Gesumundo said the grades of bar top-notchers will still be announced.
