MANILA -- The Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Tuesday that Vice President Sara Duterte may face a string of cases following her recent statements against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“Well, according 'to sa mga legal experts natin ‘no, pwede siyang masampahan ng libel, defamation. Maaari ring grave threats dahil sa mga banta niya,” DOJ Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez said in a televised briefing.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has served a subpoena against Duterte for saying that she has already contracted an assassin to kill President Marcos Jr, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez should she be killed.

Duterte in later interviews clarified that her statement was “maliciously taken out of logical context” by government authorities.

The vice president has also earlier questioned why the Presidential Security Command has been “eerily quiet” even when she has flagged several threats against her and her family.
