Maria Tan, ABS-CBN NewsMANILA — With the sudden surge of attendees at the EDSA Shrine, a Catholic church in Quezon City built to remember the 1986 People Power Revolution, the rector reminded visitors "to practice proper decorum" as the shrine conducts its usual routine.

Since Tuesday early morning, there have been an influx of people gathering at the EDSA Shrine.

"As early as 6am today, Nov. 26, hundreds of people trooped to Edsa Shrine for reasons only known to them, and for some, unknown to them," Rev. Jerome Secillano said in a statement, detailing how the surge of visitors consistently attended both 7 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. masses and stayed inside the shrine.

"They will be allowed again to stay inside the shrine on the pretext that they are praying and not doing things not proper for a house of worship," he added.

Secillano emphasized the prohibited acts inside the shrine include eating, drinking, carrying slogans, shouting, vlogging, making noise, sleeping, debating, loitering.

He said they won't "tolerate any unruly behavior and untoward activities that may compromise the sanctity and dignity of the House of God."

"Let us all pray that whatever may have caused this sudden surge in the number of “shrine-goers” be dealt with utmost sobriety and decency," Secillano wrote.

"Let us also invoke the Holy Spirit to give wisdom and understanding to all parties concerned to avert the deterioration of peace and order not only in the Shrine but in our country as well," he continued.

As the rift between Dutertes and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. administration deepens, several Duterte supporters recently echoed holding their own people power movement to express their dissatisfaction with the government.

Former president Rodrigo Duterte meanwhile had shrugged this off, saying the issues her daughter is facing are too "insignificant" to initiate a mass movement.
