MANILA — The Presidential Security Command on Monday said it has doubled the security of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. following the recent statement of Vice President Sara Duterte that she has contracted an assassin to kill the Philippine leader, the First Lady, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she were to be killed.

Major Nestor Endozo, PSC Civil Military Operations Officer, confirmed to Malacañang reporters in a phone interview that the PSC has started to heighten its security beginning Saturday.

Endozo said he does not know yet if the engagements of Marcos will be lessened amid the Vice President’s "threat."

The official also said that there has been no instructions to equip the President with a bulletproof vest or use a bulletproof podium during his public engagements.

On Monday, PSC personnel were seen implementing tighter security checks on vehicles and individuals entering the Malacañang compound.

The PSC in an earlier statement said that it is treating with the utmost seriousness “any threat to the life of the President and the First Family, regardless of its origin, especially one made so brazenly in public.”

“We consider this a matter of national security and shall take all necessary measures to ensure the President's safety,” the PSC said.
