Alfred Frias, NIB-PNA</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a one-day working visit next week, Malacañang announced on Saturday, describing the trip as “short” but “substantial.”</p><p>Marcos Jr. will meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on November 26, the Presidential Communications Office said in a statement.</p><p>“It is expected that these productive dialogues will lead to agreements that will deepen the ties between the two countries, forging areas of cooperation that mutually harness their shared values and common interests,” the statement read.</p><p>“While the President&#x27;s visit will be short, the goodwill and opportunities it will create will be substantial, resulting in stronger Philippine-UAE relations,” it read.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/15/marcos-thanks-uae-for-pardoning-143-filipinos-834">READ: Marcos thanks UAE for pardoning 143 Filipinos</a></div><p>“The President will also convey the gratitude of the Philippine government to the leaders of a nation that has tapped Filipino talent, allowing it to flourish in an environment that fosters kindness, respect, and tolerance.”</p><p>Malacañang apologized to the UAE-based overseas Filipino workers who were expecting to meet the Philippine president during his stay in the Middle Eastern country, saying Marcos Jr. “has decided to immediately fly back to Manila to resume his personal supervision and inspection of the relief and reconstruction activities in communities devastated by six successive typhoons.”</p><p>It added that “the accompanying delegation has been trimmed to the barest minimum.”</p><p>There are about 650,000 Filipinos living and working in the UAE, according to data from the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).</p><p>Marcos Jr.’s trip to the UAE comes after Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to the Philippines in June.</p><p>In October, at least 2 Emirati companies committed to invest P25 billion to develop ports across the Philippines.</p><p>As of 2022, the UAE is the Philippines’ 22nd largest source of foreign direct investments, with the Middle Eastern country hoping to increase its assets in the Southeast Asian country after the enforcement of the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement earlier this year.</p><p>In 2022, bilateral non-oil trade doubled to $1.85 billion from $830 million in 2021, data showed.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/S2CnmG4XhhA?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
