Vice President Sara Duterte has urged voters not to be swayed by "political names" in the coming elections.

Duterte and her aides at the Office of the Vice President are undergoing scrutiny at the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability for the alleged fund misuse in the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Duterte said voters should think twice about supporting politicians based on their surnames.

"Galing ako sa political dynasty, obvious naman 'yan," said the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, whose family is deeply entranced in Davao City, in a press conference on Friday evening.

"Pero hindi dahil galing sa pamilya ng pulitiko ay automatic na ang boto n'yo. Pagisipan n'yo kung ano ang kapasidad ng tao na 'yan bago tayo bumoto, 'wag bumoto dahil sa apelyido."

Duterte's statement is apparently a tirade against House Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, whom she accused of orchestrating the probe into her office's finances.

"'Wag kayong maniwala sa mga promises ng mga pulitiko. Tignan n'yo ang kanyang track record. Tignan n'yo ang path ng pulitiko na 'yan, ano bang nabigay niya. Ano ba ang promise n'ya noon na hindi n'ya naibigay," said Duterte, who continued to stay at the office of her brother, Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte.

The Vice President on Thursday visited her chief-of-staff Zuleika Lopez, who has been detained at the House after she was cited in contempt by a House panel over “undue interference” in its proceedings.

After the visit, Duterte has refused to leave Paolo's office.

Duterte also dissuaded the public from electing those who buy votes through "ayuda."

"Ang vote buying ngayon nakatago na sa pangalang 'ayuda,' nakatago sa pangalang 'tupad'… unang una pera n'yo yan, pera ng bayan, tanggapin n'yo 'yan," she said.

"'Wag kayong magpadala sa vote buying, we will end up in an embarrassing situation at nanonood sa atin ang ibang bansa."
