<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17321590152761728445581126marcos-family-ml-090417.jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Marcos family. <em>Photo by Malacanang Photo Library</em></span></span></span></div><p style="text-align:left">MANILA — The Sandiganbayan has approved a compromise agreement between the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) and the heirs of the late Roman Cruz Jr., alleged crony of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.</p><p>Cruz was the former president and general manager of the Government Service Insurance System.</p><p>In an eight-page resolution dated November 19, 2024, the Second Division granted the Joint Omnibus Motion filed by the PCGG and the heirs of Cruz.</p><p>According to the motion filed on October 25, the government agreed to drop and discontinue pursuing civil cases against Cruz.</p><p>In return, the heirs of Cruz allowed several properties, shares of stocks, and contents of an escrow account to be relinquished to the government.</p><p> &quot;After a close scrutiny of the provisions mentioned above, the Court finds them not contrary to law, morals, or public policy. The Court then deems it proper to approve the Compromise Agreement and to grant the Joint Omnibus Motion,&quot; the resolution read.</p><p>&quot;The compromise agreement is APPROVED and the relevant agencies and offices are directed to transfer of the titles and real and personal properties to the Republic of the Philippines based on the compromise agreement,&quot; the anti-graft court added.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/9/sandiganbayan-dismisses-p276-million-ill-gotten-wealth-case-vs-marcoses-1143">Sandiganbayan dismisses P276 million ill-gotten wealth case vs Marcoses</a></div><p>The properties included are two units in Camp Sioco and two parcels of land in Leonard Wood Road both in Baguio City; residential lots in Barangay San Roque and Barangay Sta. Cruz both in Antipolo City, shares of stocks in a local telecommunications firm, and P1.1 million in an escrow account.</p><p>Last month, the anti-graft court dismissed the wealth forfeiture case against Marcos Sr., former First Lady Imelda Marcos, and Cruz due to &quot;inordinate delay.&quot;</p><p>The PCGG lodged the complaint on July 21, 1987, seeking the forfeiture of P276 million worth of funds and properties allegedly accumulated by the accused over the 20-year presidency of Marcos Sr.</p><p>Prosecutors agreed with the appeal of the Marcoses to dismiss the case since there were no more allegations against the estate of the late former President.</p><p>The PCGG and the heirs of Cruz said there was no objection from the Office of the Solicitor General and the Department of Justice after review of the compromise agreement. The DOJ also gave its approval in 2021. </p><p>The deal covered cases and other legal actions against Cruz in Civil Case No. 0034-A and Civil Case No. 0014, which were still pending at the Supreme Court.</p><p>&quot;The first party, hereby fully, forever, irrevocably and absolutely releases, discharges and holds free and harmless the second party, their heirs, transferors, assignors from any action, and any and all claims and damages arising out of, or incident or related to, the Cases, and the alleged actions and/or omission of the deceased Roman A Cruz, Jr.,&quot; the agreement said.</p><p>The PCGG waived claims in another condominium unit in Makati City in favor of the heirs of Cruz.</p><p>&quot;It is settled jurisprudence that in consonance with the law on contracts, the compromise must not be contrary to law, morals, good customs, and public policy.
