Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Department of Health targets to immunize over 10 million children across the country this 2026.</p><p>This, as the DOH earlier noted an increase in the incidence of measles.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/health-science/2025/3/27/1-185-measles-cases-in-ph-recorded-from-january-march-2025-doh-1930">1,185 measles cases in PH recorded from January-March 2025: DOH</a></div><p>As of December 2025, almost 5,000 cases of measles-rubella were logged by the DOH. This is 29 percent higher compared to 2024’s figures. </p><p>Seven out of every 10 patients with measles were found to be unvaccinated.</p><p>On Tuesday, Health Secretary Ted Herbosa inspected some 1.3 million doses of the measles-rubella vaccine which will be used for the DOH’s Ligtas Tigdas Vaccination campaign.</p><p>The Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity aims to vaccinate children aged 6 months to 5 years. Last year the agency announced that the immunization activity will be done in various places in Mindanao including Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN and BARMM.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/health-science/2026/1/6/us-recommends-fewer-childhood-vaccines-in-major-shift-0922">US recommends fewer childhood vaccines in major shift</a></div><p>Measles is a highly contagious disease. A patient with the virus can spread it to around 12 to 18 other individuals.</p><p>The first phase of DOH’s supplemental vaccination activity in Mindanao is slated on January 19.
