Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN news</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA —  Cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) declined at the start of the year and posed no cause for public concern, the Department of Health said on Wednesday.</p><p>The agency recorded 1,218 ILI cases from Dec. 22, 2024 to Jan. 4. This is lower than the 5,285 ILI cases logged from Dec. 8 to 21 and 6,993 cases from Nov. 24 to Dec. 7, 2024, said DOH spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo.</p><p>“Hindi naman ho dapat makaalarma dahil alam po natin talaga, ito yung panahon na maraming ibo at sipon ang umiikot,” he told TeleRadyo Serbisyo.</p><div><script data-wid="auto" type="text/javascript" src="https://content.viralize.tv/display/?zid=AAEyze-tm4MR6kEa&amp;cid=ABTDdiloPhDARvAd&amp;activation=click&amp;vip_mode=playing&amp;vip_position=bottom-right"></script></div><p>ILI is characterized by coughs, colds, and fever. Its top five causes in the Philippines include the rhinovirus, enterovirus, influenza A, respiratory syncytial virus, and adenovirus, the DOH earlier said.</p><p>The <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/health-science/2025/1/7/what-to-know-about-the-hmpv-outbreak-in-china-0950">human metapneumovirus</a> and COVID-19 only ranked as the 6th and 7th top causes of ILI, noted Domingo. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/health-science/2025/1/8/doh-rejects-lockdown-border-closure-over-hmpv-scare-1040">DOH rejects lockdown, border closure over HMPV scare</a></div><p>In the past months, the total hospital bed and ICU bed utilization hovered at around 14 and 11 percent, he said.</p><p>“Yun po ang ating mga binabantayan para masabi natin na hindi tayo dapat kabahan sa panahong ito,” he added.</p><p>Domingo urged the public to stay at home if one is experiencing symptoms and practice good hygiene.</p>
