MANILA — The Department of Health on Monday reported 17 firecracker-related injuries across the country in just two days, or from December 22 to 23, 2024.

The DOH said that of the 17 cases, 16 were males aged 7 to 37, noting that the number was higher than the same period last year wherein they recorded 6 firecracker-related injuries.

The agency urged the public, especially children, to avoid using any type of firecrackers.

It suggested the use of alternative noise-makers like drums, horns, and others.

The DOH said the public may call the National Emergency Hotline at 911 or the DOH Hotline at 1555 if they need assistance.

The number of firecracker-related injuries has historically risen during the days immediately before and on New Year's Eve.

Last year, the government recorded hundreds of firecracker-related injuries following New Year celebrations.
