MANILA — After more than 48 hours of continuous power interruption over the weekend until Monday afternoon, electricity supply is now restored, albeit temporarily, in Boracay island and 2 other areas in Aklan.National Electrification Administration (NEA) Administrator Antonio Almeda admits the erection of 16 poles is a temporary or band aid solution to the problem.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/9/15/power-restoration-in-boracay-almost-complete-doe-1402" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Power restored in Boracay: Energy dept</a></div>The underground cable parallel to the Caticlan Airport runway measuring around 1 kilometer was damaged causing a total black out in Boracay island beginning Saturday.Energy officials scrambled resources to temporarily fix the problem as resort owners use their own generators to appease complaining guests. The power was restored before 3 p.m. on Tuesday.<div>PERMANENT SOLUTION</div>But the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Boracay Chapter has appealed to government for a permanent solution to the problem as the amihan season nears, bringing more typhoons that can topple the temporary poles.Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco also issued a statement regarding the issue.&quot;The Department underscores, however, the urgency of putting in place a permanent and sustainable solution that will ensure uninterrupted service moving forward,&quot; Frasco said.&quot;Reliable power supply is essential not only for the welfare of residents but also for the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of visitors, as well as the continued vibrancy of the island’s economy,&quot; she added.&quot;As the country’s top tourist destination, Boracay sustains thousands of jobs and livelihoods for local communities and contributes significantly to the national economy. It is imperative that we provide the island   dependable infrastructure and efficient services,&quot; the secretary said.&quot;The DOT remains committed to working with partner agencies to safeguard Boracay’s standing as a world-class destination and vital engine of tourism growth,&quot; she added.Almeda and Energy Secretary Sharon Garin concede that the problem should be fixed permanently by asking the cooperative and NGCP to do something about it.According to Almeda, the assets becomes a transmission facility to it should be the responsibility of the NGCP to fix it.
