MANILA -- Electronic wallet platform GCash has implemented stricter policies to “align with new responsible gaming regulations.”

This move comes after criticisms over online gambling mounted in the recent days.

GCash became involved in the issue since it links users to online gambling through advertisements in its platform, and allows users to access their e-wallet in order to play.

ABS-CBN obtained a copy of the July 11 letter of GCash to its partners, which said the changes are effective starting July 16.

“These revisions are implemented to uphold industry standards, ensure responsible promotions on our platform, and maintain seamless execution of your campaigns,” the letter read.

“These changes are designed to promote safer gaming practices and ensure that GCash and our partner merchants remain compliant with the laws and regulations,” it added.

Because of the update, all key visuals will no longer feature clickable links, and more emphasis on responsible gambling will be placed.

GCash noted that the new guidelines will apply to all GLife promotional assets, including headers, hero banners, category banners, and pop-ups.

GCash asked its partners to submit their response by July 12.
