MANILA — The Manila International Airport Authority is reminding passengers that there is a free inter-terminal shuttle at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The free shuttle goes around the three NAIA terminals on regular intervals, and can be easily found at the arrival bays in the airport.

This reminder comes amidst incidents of taxi drivers allegedly overcharging passengers who are transferring from one terminal to another.

Just this Friday, the Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Office ordered another taxi operator and driver to explain after allegedly charging P5,500 to a passenger transferring from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.

This is a different incident from the taxi driver that went viral for charging more than P1000 for a passenger transferring terminals last week.

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines said they are already investigating the incidents, and they have disarmed the five airport police involved in the alleged bribery incident.

Ines said it is illegal for outside taxis to pick up passengers in the airport, but they cannot really apprehend them.

Outside taxis have found a scheme offering rides allegedly cheaper than those from airport taxis.

"Nagpapakita sila ng fake na mga rate, peke 'yong pinapakita, para akitin ang mga pasahero," Ines said.

Based on initial investigation, the taxis pump up their charges because they have to give 40 percent of their earnings to airport police, who in turn will give them access to pick up areas.

ACCREDITED TAXIS SPEAK UP

Meanwhile, the Association of Accredited Transport Services in NAIA clarified that it's the outsider taxis that overcharge.

Romeo Sayaman, president of the Airport Transport Concessionaire Association Inc. said the accredited airport taxis follow rates prescribed by the LTFRB.

"Itong mga nabigyan sa concession sa airport, ang rate nito 2007 pa. Nag aask nga kami petition na mag-rate increase. Lumang presyo na ito, 15 years ago pa," Sayaman said.
