MANILA — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said it is inclined to review for possible approval the P1 provisional fare hike for traditional and modern jeepneys in the first week of July.

LTFRB chairman Teofilo Guadiz III told ABS-CBN News, the board decided to review the pending P5 fare hike petition and the request for a provisional increase of different transport groups filed in 2024 due to the series of oil price increases.

According to Guadiz, LTFRB is just waiting for the validity or confirmation of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) of its recommendation.

“We are looking at it at the first of July po, may inaantay lang po kaming pag-aaral sa NEDA, and that would be two weeks from now po at ilalabas na po namin yoon,” Guadiz added.

He said, LTFRB is also studying the fare hike petition of provincial bus operators.

“Yang mga provincial buses opo pero ang mga city buses ay iniatras nila ang kanilang petisyon dahil masyadong maigting ang kompetisyon in Metro Manila - we have jeepneys, you have TNVS, motorcycle taxi ay higit sa lahat meron tayong railway system. Baka ho ‘pag tinaas ang kanilang pamasahe eh lalo silang mawalan ng pasahero kaya po minabuti muna nilang pag-aralan ulit yung kanilang petisyon,” Guadiz told ABS-CBN News.

Guadiz admitted, any jeepney fare hike increase will be an additional burden to commuters, but said it is necessary to approve at least a provisional increase due to oil price increases.
