MANILA (UPDATE) — Meralco electricity rates are going down in June. The power distributor said power costs were going down by P0.11/kwh this month as electricity prices fell in the spot market.

In a statement, Meralco noted the generation charge fell by P0.1099/kWh to P7.3552/kWh, because of lower charges from power supply agreements, independent power producers, and the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM).

Meralco said these price drops more than offset the increase in transmission charges, which went up by P0.0214/kWh because of higher ancillary service charges from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ (NGCP) ancillary service procurement agreements and the reserve market.
