MANILA (UPDATE) — Electricity rates are falling by P0.75/kWh in May because of lower power generation and transmission charges, Meralco said Tuesday.

This means power rates will be reduced by the following amounts:

Consumption  Decrease

200 kwh           P150

300 kwh           P225

400 kwh           P300

500 kwh           P375

In a statement, the power distributor said generation charges are dropping because of lower charges from the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM) and independent power producers.

Charges from WESM fell by P1.1424 per kWh because of more power supply in the Luzon grid.

Independent power producer charges also went down by P0.9555 per kWh because of higher average dispatch, and the peso’s appreciation to its strongest level since December 2023.

Meanwhile, transmission charges also went down by P0.2970 per kWh.
