MANILA -- The Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) said it expects some 2.5 million passenger to pass through from April 9 to April 23 as Filipinos flock to their provinces for the Easter holiday.

The Philippines commemorates Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor on April 9, and the date is considered a regular holiday. Filipino Catholics, meanwhile, are expected to troop to their home provinces on Holy Week.

In a statement, the PITX said it expects a steady climb in foot traffic leading up to Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, which are traditionally the busiest travel days.

"A significant return surge is also expected from April 21 to April 23 as people resume work and school," the PITX said.

The PITX said it is working with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to give passengers a safe and convenient journey.

LTFRB is deploying additional public utility buses, while MMDA will be managing traffic around the PITX to avoid congestion.

The PNP, meanwhile, will be deploying personnel to heighten security and ensure the safety of all passengers.
