MANILA — The Department of Agriculture and the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) inked a memorandum of understanding to build Kadiwa pop up stores in post offices around the country.

For 2025, a total of 61 PHLPost offices will also host Kadiwa PopUp stores to bring cheaper goods to more Filipinos.

PHLPost Postmaster General and CEO Luis Carlos said most of their offices that would host Kadiwa stores are in Metro Manila, the northwestern part of Luzon, Visayas, and the Sulu Sea. 

The partnership will expand the reach of Kadiwa network. Both agencies are targetting to build pop up stores in 800 out of 1,100 PHLPost offices around the country.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel said the logistical support of PHLPost will give them a boost in ensuring food security in the country.

"There are logistical issues that we have to gather participating farmer partners, markets, opportunities dito. And depende yan, from my experience in retail, there are some outlets that we might open that might close," Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said.

"Instead of just a pop-up, it can be a full store na or a mega-Kadiwa or something like that. But what is important is nandiyan yung PHLPost, nandiyan yung facilities, nandiyan yung logistics capability," he added.

Both parties said the MOU would be in effect as long as both Tiu Laurel and Carlos are in office.

"This is not only about putting up a store. It's also about the logistics of things. Well, PHLPost is an expert at it," Tiu Laurel ended.
