More than just a sport, running itself is a journey of persistence, growth, and discovery. Every runner, whether a seasoned athlete or a beginner, starts with a single step—one that leads to new challenges and breakthroughs.

The road is rarely smooth, but with every stride, there is progress. It is in this rhythm of motion that dreams take shape, you are fueled by dedication, boosted by resilience, and you focus on moving forward.

For many, running is not just about speed or competition; it is about the pursuit of something great. It could be a goal, a fresh start, or a reminder of strength that comes from within. Along the way, there are moments of struggle, you sometimes start to question yourself whether you may achieve the feat, but also triumphs—proof that every effort counts.

EastWest—part of the Filinvest group—has always stood for progress built on resilience, determination, and steady forward motion. As the Bank marks its 30th year alongside Filinvest's 70-year legacy, it looks back on a journey shaped by people and driven growth. To commemorate these achievements, the bank introduces the EastWest Dream Run—an event that embodies movement, momentum, and the pursuit of dreams.

"At EastWest, we believe that every dream begins with a single step. Progress happens gradually—through consistency, resilience, and small but meaningful moves forward. The EastWest Dream Run is our way of celebrating that spirit: personal milestones, quiet perseverance, and the drive to keep chasing what matters," shared Martin Reyes, EastWest's SVP Head of Marketing and Cash Management.

The Dream Run is a key moment event for EastWest, a celebration of three decades of achievements and progress. To bring this to life, EastWest partnered with Coach Rio de la Cruz—the visionary behind RUNRIO and one of the most respected names in the local running scene. Known for his thoughtful approach to race design and deep connection with the running community, Coach Rio brings his expertise to ensure every Dream Run participant experiences a race shaped with care, precision, and intention.

Coach Rio de la Cruz joined EastWest leaders in Cebu and Davao to launch the EastWest Dream Run, with key officers from Manila also in attendance. The event brought together media guests for an inspiring conversation on movement, purpose, and the power of every step. Photo source: EastWest

Long before the finish lines and fanfare, Rio was a boy from Camarines Sur, running barefoot on sun-scorched pavement. He did not start with gear or guidance. He started with need, then followed it with resolve. From racing for free lunches to leading a national fitness movement, his story is not about speed—it is about persistence.

"I ran because I had to survive," shared Coach Rio. "Later, I kept running because I realized I could inspire. Every race, every finish line—it is never just distance. It is identity, clarity, sometimes even healing."

Eventually, Rio earned a scholarship to the University of the Philippines, where he trained under floodlights and built a life around the sport. He later founded RUNRIO, one of the country's leading race organizers, making professional, accessible races a part of local culture. The curls, the drive, the reputation—it all came after the real work was done. That is why he is part of the EastWest Dream Run—his story speaks to the kind of progress EastWest has stood for over the last 30 years: steady, purposeful, and deeply personal.

The EastWest Dream Run will be held in Davao on April 6, Cebu on May 4, and Manila on June 15—three key cities where EastWest has strong roots and where Filinvest has played a role in building thriving communities. Davao, a strategic growth area for both the bank and the group, kicks off the series. In Cebu, the run takes place at City di Mare, a Filinvest township by the sea. The final leg happens at Filinvest City in Alabang, the group's flagship CBD in Metro Manila.

The run offers a range of categories for every kind of participant:

- 1K, 2K, 5K, 10K, and a challenging 30K

- 1K Dog Run for those running with their four-legged companions

Every runner receives a race kit, a dreamcatcher-inspired finisher's medal, and a thoughtfully designed route. But more than that, they walk away with something big—a sense of purpose, community, and the joy of being part of something meaningful.

Join the movement

The EastWest Dream Run is open to everyone—seasoned runners, beginners, weekend walkers, and the casually curious. It is a celebration of the dreams we have held onto, the ones we are still shaping, and the courage it takes to keep going.
