MANILA — Globe Telecom Chief Financial Officer Juan Carlo Puno admits US President Donald Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs added "uncertainties" but this won't stop plans for the initial public offering of GCash (Mynt).

"I think the Liberation Day added a lot of uncertainties. And I think this uncertainty does not stop us from within," Puno said during Globe's annual stockholders' meeting on Tuesday

"When the market opens up, if we find a window where the value, the valuations we're getting, and the interest we're getting is appropriate and acceptable, then we will push that button to trigger the IPO.," Puno said.

"Whether or not it happens this year or next year-- it's really dependent on how this whole Liberation Day tariff evolves over the next few months," he added.

GCash's current market value is now almost equal to its parent Globe Telecom.

Meanwhile, new Globe Telecom President and CEO Carl Raymond Cruz said the company is making sure all hands are on deck for a successful IPO for the fintech unit.

"What we are doing at Globe and GCash is to make sure that all hands are on deck to ensure a successful IPO for GCash. Nothing has changed in that. It will be push button mode very, very soon. And we want to ensure that the macro environment when we do the IPO will be very conducive for this particular offering to be the most successful in the Philippine market," Cruz said.

Retired Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu, earlier said they were looking at a public float smaller than what the Philippine Stock Exchange and the Securities and Exchange Commission requires, which is 20 percent.
