MANILA -- More than 2.2 million Filipinos passed through ports during Holy Week, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said on Monday.

In a statement, the PPA said this is 37.14 percent higher than the 1,670,984 seen in the same period in 2024.

Most of the passengers passed through Batangas, Panay/Guimaras, Mindoro, Negros Oriental/Siquijor, and Bohol.

PPA General Manager Jay Santiago said this is probably because of Holy Week coinciding with the summer vacation of students, and the effective promotions of Philippine local tourist destinations.

The PPA also said it will soon roll out the Electronic Terminal Management System (ETMS), which will give tickets to passengers electronically.

"Within the next few months basta within this year, maro-rollout na ‘yan. Kapag may e-ticketing na tayo, wala nang masyadong pila", said Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
