MANILA - The operator of the country's main gateway said it is implementing a new automated parking system for the airport.

New NAIA Infra Corp said it has introduced an automated parking system at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to provide a faster, more convenient experience for passengers and visitors.

NNIC said the system went live at Terminal 3 on March 1, with Terminals 1 and 2 to follow suit on March 14.

"To further enhance efficiency, real-time parking slot displays will be installed at Terminal 3 by April and at Terminals 1 and 2 by May this year. This will allow drivers to check available spaces before entering," NNIC said.

Only cash payments are currently accepted, but starting March 14, customers will also be able to pay using GCash, Maya, debit, and credit cards.

"With the new system, drivers enter through unmanned entrances, receive an automated ticket, and exit using a QR code-based system. This will significantly reduce waiting times and improve overall traffic flow," the company said.

It added that by July, autopay stations will be operational across all terminals, further speeding up transactions.

NNIC increased parking rates at the airport last year, and allowed curbside pick up or drop off passengers at the Terminal 1 arrival area. While assessing the parking slots in the facility, NAIA personnel also discovered vehicles there that had been abandoned or had been left there for years.
